Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has commissioned Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries Limited in Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, in a move expected to boost local drug manufacturing, create jobs and strengthen healthcare delivery.
The multi-billion-naira facility is expected to support domestic medicine production, develop local talent and expand employment opportunities in the state.
The Chairman of the company’s Board of Directors, Rear Admiral Allison Madueke (rtd), commended Mbah for creating an investment-friendly environment, describing Anchorage as a legacy project designed to generate jobs and contribute to economic development.
Speaking at the commissioning, Mbah said the facility represented more than a pharmaceutical business, describing it as an investment in public health, economic growth and the future of young people in the state.
The governor congratulated the company’s founder, board and management, noting that establishing a manufacturing enterprise required significant commitment and confidence in Enugu’s economic prospects.
He said the facility would create employment opportunities, offer internship placements and facilitate skills transfer while supporting healthcare delivery across the state.
Mbah also disclosed that the government would explore commercial partnerships with Anchorage to supply medicines to its central medical stores and primary healthcare facilities.
He said the state was building 260 Type-2 primary healthcare centres, adding that the facilities would need reliable supplies of essential medicines to operate effectively.
“We are interested in made-in-Enugu, and that’s what you’re doing here,” the governor said, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to working with private enterprises.

Mbah said private investment remained central to the state’s economic growth strategy, stressing the need to create opportunities that would enable skilled young people to build their careers in Enugu rather than seek employment elsewhere.
Madueke said Anchorage was the practical expression of his longstanding belief that private enterprise could create jobs, widen economic opportunities and improve prosperity.
The former Chief of the Naval Staff and former military governor of the old Anambra and Imo states said the company would prioritise product quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance and sound corporate governance.
He also acknowledged the role of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control in safeguarding public health.
Madueke expressed confidence that the company would contribute to the development of Enugu State, the South-East and Nigeria. He also thanked Mbah for commissioning the facility and supporting a business environment conducive to investment.
Managing Director, Engr Chima Madueke, said Anchorage was founded on the principles of quality and wellness, reflected in its slogan, “Anchored in Quality, Committed to Wellness.”
He said the company had obtained the necessary approvals and clearances from NAFDAC and the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, reaffirming its commitment to quality assurance.
Chima Madueke added that Anchorage would help address the problem of fake and substandard medicines in Nigeria and was open to supplying hospitals, healthcare institutions and pharmacies directly.
The commissioning highlights the role of private-sector investment in the Mbah administration’s efforts to expand Enugu’s economic base. The governor assured investors of continued government support to improve the business environment and encourage further investment.
