The Niger Government has expressed sadness over a fatal road accident along the Minna–Bida Road, clarifying that the vehicle involved was not part of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s convoy.

Mr Obed Nana, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, on Wednesday, said the government extended its heartfelt condolences to the families, relatives and friends of the deceased.

Nana said the government deeply regretted the loss of lives and sympathised with everyone affected by the tragedy.

He explained that, contrary to reports linking the incident to the governor’s convoy, the driver was a Government House staff member returning from a trip with other staff members.

The commissioner expressed regret over the circumstances surrounding the accident and stressed the need for motorists to prioritise road safety.

He urged media organisation s and members of the public to verify information before publication, particularly reports linking incidents to the governor and the government.

Nana said the government remained committed to the welfare and safety of residents, urging motorists to obey traffic regulations, exercise caution and act responsibly on the roads.

He reiterated the government’s sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and comfort for their loved ones.

He also prayed for strength for the families to bear the irreparable loss.
