The United Kingdom Government has launched a new campaign to combat knife crime, combining intensified police operations, surveillance technology and youth-focused prevention initiatives in communities affected by knife-related violence.

The campaign, known as ‘No Place for Knives’, commenced on Monday, November 2, 2026, in Westminster and Croydon, with enforcement operations also being tested in Birmingham city centre.

The UK Home Office said the initiative was developed in partnership with police forces and local authorities to discourage knife carrying and identify individuals considered most likely to engage in knife-related offences.

The enforcement measures include live facial recognition technology, metal detection systems, rapid-response electric bikes and increased foot patrols.

Public awareness messages will also feature at Underground stations, bus stops and across social media platforms, while a campaign mural has been unveiled at Boxpark Croydon.

According to the government, Westminster, Croydon and 16 other London boroughs have received more than £8.1 million through the Knife Crime Concentrations Fund to support targeted interventions.

The funding is being used for policing operations, youth engagement programmes and visible safety patrols, particularly in busy nightlife districts.

The Home Office said national statistics indicate that knife crime has declined by 11 per cent since the General Election, while knife-related homicides have dropped by 25 per cent and knife-enabled robberies by 18 per cent.

In London, knife crime has reportedly decreased by 14 per cent within the same period, with knife-related killings falling by 34 per cent and knife-enabled robberies by 19 per cent.

Policing and Crime Minister Sarah Jones said the campaign seeks to improve public confidence and prevent violent incidents across affected communities.

“Everyone in Westminster and Croydon deserves to feel safe on their streets. We know that hearing of knife crime incidents happening in your city can have the opposite effect and we want to stop that,” she said.

Jones added that the government was working closely with law enforcement agencies to concentrate efforts on locations where knife crime causes the greatest harm.

Metropolitan Police Commander Pete Stevens said officers were prioritising individuals considered most likely to pose a threat, with the aim of preventing violent incidents before they happen.

He also disclosed that knife-enabled crime had fallen by 14.9 per cent across London in the last financial year, while hospital admissions following attacks involving sharp weapons had declined by 29 per cent over five years.

The campaign has attracted support from anti-violence organisations, including Crimestoppers and the Ben Kinsella Trust.

Crimestoppers Director of Operations Mick Duthie urged members of the public to provide anonymous information about knife carrying and violent activities, stressing that such reports could help prevent attacks and protect young people.

Ben Kinsella Trust Chief Executive Patrick Green welcomed the involvement of young people in developing the initiative, saying their experiences could help address the pressures and misconceptions that encourage knife carrying.

The campaign forms part of the UK Government’s broader commitment to reducing knife crime by half within a decade through stronger enforcement, prevention strategies and early intervention.
