The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has commenced a livelihood recovery programme for 653 households affected by the 2025 floods in Kebbi State, with beneficiaries receiving empowerment equipment and food assistance to help them rebuild their means of livelihood.
The intervention is being implemented through the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, as part of the Federal Government’s Presidential Post-Flood Intervention Programme approved by President Bola Tinubu.
Details of the programme were contained in a statement issued by NEMA spokesperson, Manzo Ezekiel, following the inauguration of the initiative in Birnin Kebbi.
Speaking at the event, NEMA Director-General, Zubaida Umar, represented by the agency’s Director of Relief and Rehabilitation, Abbani Garki, said the intervention was designed to support affected families beyond emergency relief by helping them regain sustainable sources of income.
According to her, the programme is intended to complement previous humanitarian assistance provided to flood victims while accelerating recovery efforts in impacted communities.
“The programme was designed to move affected households beyond immediate relief towards sustainable livelihood recovery,” she said.
Umar explained that the support package would help beneficiaries restart small businesses, engage in productive economic activities and improve their household welfare.
She further noted that the initiative would not be limited to Kebbi State, adding that it would be implemented across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
