Samuel Perry, the comic actor better known as Broda Shaggi, has been hospitalised after allegedly being shot while filming.

Confirming the incident on Friday, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Ogun police spokesperson, stated that the event’s location could not be verified.

He confirmed that Broda Shaggi is receiving treatment in Lagos but noted that efforts to reach him had been unsuccessful.

“Thank God you said alleged. We cannot confirm that it happened within our jurisdiction. We can confirm that he is in Lagos,” he said.

“I am trying to communicate with Broda Shaggi, but I have not gotten to him yet.”

The skitmaker was filming around the Sango Ota bridge in Ogun state when he was reportedly shot in the leg.

He was initially rushed to a hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos before being transferred to another facility in the Government Residential Area of Ikeja.

Abimbola Adebisi, the Lagos police spokesperson, said the command was alerted by a hospital that had received a patient with a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, police discovered the victim was Broda Shaggi.

Adebisi added that although the incident occurred outside Lagos, an investigation is ongoing to apprehend those responsible.

Police sources said preliminary findings indicate that the shooting may have occurred during a scene being recorded for a film production, though the exact circumstances surrounding the discharge of the firearm remain unclear. Officers are currently working to determine whether the weapon involved was a prop gun or a live firearm, while also identifying individuals who were present on the set at the time of the incident.

Authorities further stated that statements would be obtained from members of the production crew and other eyewitnesses as part of efforts to reconstruct what transpired during the filming. Investigators are also expected to review any available video recordings from the set to assist in establishing the sequence of events that led to the comedian sustaining the injury.

Meanwhile, the incident has generated widespread concern among fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry, many of whom have taken to social media to wish the actor a speedy recovery while calling for improved safety standards during film productions.

Broda Shaggi, whose real name is Samuel Animashaun Perry, is a Nigerian comedian, actor and content creator widely known for his humorous skits on social media. He rose to fame through his portrayal of the streetwise character “Broda Shaggi,” a role that blends comedy with social commentary and has earned him millions of followers online as well as several awards in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
