Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has distanced herself from the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, after her name appeared on the party’s campaign council list ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Her clarification came shortly after the Lagos APC unveiled its campaign structure with Abraham listed among 33 entertainers under the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate.

Reacting to the development in an Instagram Story, Abraham said she was not a member of any campaign council and asked the public to disregard her reported inclusion.

“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently, I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee.”

The actress provided further clarification saying her decision was not influenced by online criticism or concerns about renewed attacks from social media users.

Responding to an X user who suggested that rejecting the role could help protect her from further online bullying, Abraham said she rejected the inclusion because she had not been consulted before her name appeared on the list.

“I didn’t do it because of any bully. I did it because it was the right thing to do. I woke up and saw my name on a list I knew absolutely nothing about. Moreover, I’ve already said it—I’m not interested in politics,” she said.

The Lagos APC campaign structure places the actress under its Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate, headed by Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka.

Veteran actor Jide Kosoko is listed as co-director, while Eniola Badmus is named deputy director. Akeem Alimi, popularly known as Ajala Jalingo, is secretary, with Dare Olateju as assistant secretary.

Other entertainers listed in the directorate include Oga Bello, Yinka Quadri, Fathia Balogun, Tayo Sobola, Abiola Adebayo, Remi Oshodi, Foluke Daramola, Kikelomo Balogun, Bopo Oyekan Ismaila, Rasaq Yusuf, Aderinola Philips, Olamide Maja and Abbey Lanre.

The list also features musicians and other entertainment personalities such as Sulaimon Alao Adekunle, popularly known as Malaika; Akorede Babatunde Okunola, known as Osupa; Temitope Adekunle, popularly known as Small Doctor; Sule Adiro Ataweye, Yemisi Falaye, Leke Babatunde Akinrowo, Kayode Fahm and Aruna Ishola.

Abraham’s latest position comes three years after she openly supported President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.

Her political stance at the time attracted criticism on social media, with the actress later speaking publicly about attacks directed at her and members of her family.

In 2024, she also said she had learned from the experience and indicated that she would be more private about her political choices in the future.

The actress’s latest comments, however, make her current position clear: despite her name appearing in the published Lagos APC campaign council document, she says she is not a member of the council and does not intend to participate in political campaigning.
