The governorship elections began on a promising note Saturday morning in three states in Nigeria.

Kogi State recorded mass turnout of voters in most polling units in Lokoja, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

A NAN correspondent who went round polling units in Lokoja, also reports that the election witnessed early arrival of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and voting materials.

In polling unit 067 ward A, Kogi Hotel Tourism Board, accreditation of voters and voting started at 8.30 a.m., as most voters were already on queue before accreditation time.

The situation was also the same at polling unit 065 ward A Saron Gari, where voters were seen taking their turn to vote.
In polling unit 068 ward A, Baptist Plaza, voters conducted themselves peacefully, even without the presence of a security agent at the polling unit.

In polling unit 012 ward A, Crowder Memorial College, there was also massive turnout of voters and the election was hitch-free.

Accreditation began a little late in Okpoama, Brass Local Area of Bayelsa State.

As at 8:30 a.m. in Ward 4 Okpoama, the Registration Area Centre, sorting was still ongoing for onward distribution of electoral materials to the 17 polling units in the ward.

Okpoama is the home town of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Timipre Sylva.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the area was calm, with security personnel, party agents and INEC Adhoc staff on ground awaiting the distribution of electoral materials.

Security personnel were seen around the area while businesses and other activities were ongoing as people patiently await the arrival of election materials for commencement of voting at the polling units.

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello cast his vote at his polling unit 11 located in Okene Agassa.

Bello cast the vote at the ongoing off-season November 11 governorship election in Kogi State around 9:33 am.

INEC officials arrived as early as 7:30 am and commenced voting process at exactly 8:30 a.m.
