The West African Examinations Council ,WAEC, has unveiled plans to introduce the Computer-Based Test ,CBT, platform for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination ,WASSCE, for private candidates.
This innovative move, set to commence with the 2024 First Series of WASSCE for private candidates in February, marks a significant shift from the traditional Paper and Pencil Test.
According to Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, the Acting Head of Public Affairs for WAEC, the objective tests will be fully computer-based, while the essay and practical papers will adopt a hybrid approach.
In the hybrid format, examination questions will be presented on the screen, requiring candidates to write their answers on provided answer booklets.
The Computer-Based Test will be conducted in urban centers and cities, with special provisions made for candidates with special needs.
Registration for the examination is scheduled to begin on December 18, providing candidates ample time to prepare for this technological shift.
To facilitate a smooth transition, WAEC has also finalized plans for a mock examination in February 2024, allowing candidates to familiarize themselves with the new computer-based platform.
Mrs. Adesina urged prospective candidates to enhance their computer skills and embrace this innovative approach.
As WAEC aims to uphold its status as Africa’s foremost examining body, dedicated to providing quality and reliable educational assessments, this move signals a vision for the future where all examinations conducted by the council will be delivered via computer.
This transformative step aligns WAEC with global best practices and underscores the commitment to academic and moral excellence.
