In a significant legal development, the Supreme Court has upheld the election victory of Abdullahi Sule as the governor of Nasarawa State.
The decision comes after the state election petition tribunal had initially nullified Sule’s election, declaring David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the winner of the March 18, 2023 election.

The appeal court, however, overturned this decision, reinstating Sule. The appellate court reasoned that the tribunal had erroneously relied on evidence from eight PDP witnesses, whose statements were not submitted alongside the petition.
Delivering the lead judgement, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun asserted that the appeal lacked merit, thereby affirming Abdullahi Sule’s legitimacy as the governor of Nasarawa State.
