In a tense atmosphere, the Plateau State Police Command has heightened security measures at the Plateau Assembly, anticipating potential clashes as 16 former People’s Democratic Party, PDP, lawmakers insist on resuming sitting, despite their recent dismissal by the Appeal Court.
Armed policemen were deployed to the Old Government House Jos, the venue of the scheduled sitting, as early as 5 am, reflecting the gravity of the situation. An anonymous police inspector revealed, “We are under instructions to screen anyone coming to the venue so as to be sure if you are a staff or hoodlums.”

The intensified security presence is seen as a proactive measure to forestall any potential invasion or disruptions by hoodlums during the legislative session. Apprehensions loom large, anticipating a clash between the 16 PDP lawmakers, who were ousted by the Court of Appeal, and the All Progressives Congress , APC, lawmakers declared winners by the same court.
As the situation unfolds, the temporary Chamber of the Old Government House remains empty, with neither PDP nor APC lawmakers present to commence plenary. The palpable tension and uncertainty surrounding the legislative proceedings cast a shadow over the political landscape in Plateau State.
