President Bola Tinubu is in an emergency meeting with Governors of the Federation at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.

Vice President Kashim Shettima; the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FTC,  Chief Nyesom Wike; and Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun are also at the meeting, which commenced around 11:30am.

The Chief of Staff to the President is also present at the meeting.

Also it was not possible to lay hands on a copy of the meeting’s agenda, it was gathered that President Tinubu summoned the meeting in a bid to finding remedies to rising cost of food items, insecurity and other economic issues.

Although Tinubu has directed his economic team, which includes all relevant government officials, to find a way to improve the situation, the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency has been given approval to make available approximately 102,000 metric tons of various items such as rice, maize, and millet, among others.

The ongoing emergency meeting is expected to produce a solution for mitigating rising food prices, insecurity, and other economic issues.

Women and youth have taken to the streets to protest, and there has been an increase in criminal activity as a result of the heightened political tension.
Governors from Ekiti, Delta, Borno, Lagos, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Edo were seen entering the Council Chambers to attend the meeting.

Governors from Yobe, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Plateau, Kaduna, Sokoto, Niger, Taraba, Adamawa, Cross River, Ogun, and Enugu were also seen.

The emergency meeting would be immediately followed by the monthly National Economic Council, NEC,  meeting, which Vice President Shettima would preside over.
