Numerous individuals have fallen victim to WhatsApp hacking, resulting in financial losses for their contacts. In light of this, Credible News presents strategies to safeguard your privacy on WhatsApp.
With over 2.78 billion monthly active users across 180 countries, WhatsApp stands as the leading global mobile messenger app, as per Statista. This number is projected to reach 3.14 billion by 2025.
Despite its popularity, WhatsApp users face potential security risks due to encryption vulnerabilities and recent privacy policy changes involving increased data sharing with Meta, its parent company.
To mitigate risks, users can adopt various protective measures:
Utilize Disappearing Options: Employ the “View Once” feature for sending photos and media, ensuring recipients can view the content only once without the ability to save or share it. This feature also extends to voice notes, enhancing privacy.
Update to the Latest Version: Regularly update WhatsApp to access security enhancements and verify app authenticity to avoid fake versions posing security threats.
Activate Chat Lock: Secure specific chat threads with Chat Lock, requiring a unique password for access, thereby safeguarding personal or financial information.
Beware of Scams: Exercise caution when encountering suspicious messages, calls, or emails, and promptly block unknown contacts. Report and block suspicious contacts to maintain account security.
Link WhatsApp Safely: When linking multiple devices to your primary phone for seamless chatting, ensure you’re using the correct URL or official app to avoid potential security breaches.

Backup WhatsApp Messages: Regularly back up your WhatsApp messages and media to prevent data loss, utilizing Google Drive on Android or iCloud on iOS.
Enable Two-Step Verification: Activate two-factor authentication for added security, making it more challenging for hackers to access your account.
While these measures enhance security, it’s essential to recognize potential privacy challenges, such as the risk of conversations being captured via screenshots. Additionally, users must remain vigilant against phishing attempts and prioritize privacy in their digital interactions.
