Manchester City striker Erling Haaland still envisions himself joining Real Madrid in the future.
However, Kylian Mbappe’s expected transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Los Blancos as a free agent this summer has postponed that aspiration. Haaland had initially planned to join the Spanish giants in 2025, according to ESPN.
That is no longer the case, but the 23-year-old still wants to play for Real Madrid and sees City’s Champions League quarterfinal showdown with Carlo Ancelotti’s side as the perfect opportunity to showcase his credentials for a future move. Haaland completed the full 90 minutes in both legs of last season’s semifinal against Madrid but didn’t score in either of them.

Erling Braut Haaland, born on July 21, 2000, is a Norwegian professional footballer renowned for his role as a striker for Premier League club Manchester City and the Norway national team. Regarded as one of the top players globally, he is celebrated for his exceptional speed, strength, positioning, and goal-scoring prowess inside the penalty area. Haaland made a significant impact in his debut Premier League season, setting a new record for the most goals scored by a player in a single season, tallying an impressive 36 goals.
Man City are now speeding up the process of renewing Haaland’s contract, even though his current deal runs until 2027. His contract reportedly includes a €200 million release clause that would allow the Norway international to leave this summer, and his agent Rafaela Pimenta plans for a similar clause to be a feature of any other deal so that he can join Los Blancos. While there’s no specific clause in Erling Haaland’s contract regarding Pep Guardiola, the future of the Manchester City manager could indirectly affect the striker’s situation. Additionally, Real Madrid may face financial challenges in securing both Kylian Mbappe and Haaland due to the complexities of their budgeting.
