The Federal Government has declared Monday, June 17 and Tuesday, June 18, 2024, public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival.
In a statement issued Friday, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of of Interior, Dr Aishetu Ndayako quoted the minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as congratulating the Muslim Ummah both at home and in the Diaspora on the occasion.

“He further enjoined all Muslim faithful and Nigerians in general to support, cooperate and join hands with the president in his sustained efforts to diversify the economy and progressively accelerate the pace of the nation’s economic recovery.
“While wishing the Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Minister advised all Nigerians to take responsibility in the resolve to hand over a prosperous Nigeria to the nation’s children,” the statement read.
Commonly translated as the Feast of Sacrifice, Eid-el-Kabir is the second of the two main Islamic holidays alongside Eid al-Fitr.
In the Islamic calendar, Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of the twelfth and final month of Dhu al-Hijja, and celebrations and observances are generally carried forward to the three following days, known as the Tashreeq days.
President Bola Tinubu Friday afternoon left Abuja for Lagos to observe the festival.
Traffic flow in the Federal Capital Territory has been very lean since Thursday as many residents left the FCT for their various states.
