The Nigeria Police Force has signified intention to arraign social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan in court today.
The announcement was made on the NPF’s official X handle on Friday. “In response to recent developments, VDM is set to appear in court today following allegations of impersonation,” the statement read.
This development comes after reports surfaced that the activist was arrested Thursday night by police for using a Nigerian Police uniform in one of his social media videos.
Trouble began when social media influencer VeryDarkMan appeared in a viral video wearing what appeared to be a police uniform, introducing himself as the “Chief Superintendent of Police of the online division.”

The Nigeria Police Force subsequently announced that it would investigate the source of the police gear and the authority under which the activist acted. On Friday, the NPF disclosed that the activist, whose real name is Mr. Martins Otse, was scheduled to appear in court over allegations of impersonation connected to the unauthorized use of police uniforms. the NPF wrote on X.
The FCT Police Command had taken charge of the case, emphasizing the NPF’s dedication to protecting the integrity of its symbols and preventing misuse. The police encouraged the public to stay updated on the court proceedings.
VeryDarkMan had issued an apology, clarifying that he had no intention of impersonating law enforcement. “I didn’t intend to impersonate the police in any way and I tender my unreserved apologies to the Nigeria Police Force and the office of the Inspector General of Police,” he said.
He also advised the public to seek proper authorization from the police or other agencies before using anything resembling official uniforms. “You might want to use it for good, but others could use it for bad. It’s best to get full approval before using anything that might appear to be impersonating,” he added.
