The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of Sunday Abidoye, whose body was discovered in a hotel room at Creestar Hotel, Sagamu, on Wednesday.

The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola disclosed  that the incident was reported by the hotel’s Chief Security Officer, identified only as Oluwole.

Upon arrival at the hotel, detectives found the deceased’s body outside the hotel in a car, where it was being prepared for transport to the morgue by his family.

Abidoye’s brother, Jimoh Godday, who resides in Imota Town in Lagos State, informed the police that his brother had returned to Nigeria from the United States on Saturday. He became concerned when he could not reach Abidoye by phone on Monday and visited the hotel. After knocking on the door multiple times, Godday requested a spare key from the hotel manager, which allowed him to enter the room and discover his brother’s lifeless body.

The police discovered various drugs and traditional medicine in the room, with a liquid-like substance soaked in the center of the bed. A friend of the deceased, Ogunmonti Ogunwole, confirmed that he had accompanied Abidoye the day before to purchase nine different types of medication, as Abidoye had been unwell.

Odutola stated that the deceased’s remains had been moved to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital morgue for an autopsy. At the time of reporting, no official cause of death had been determined. The case is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

Odutola also issued a warning about the dangers of using unprescribed drugs, urging the public to avoid self-medication.
