The Imo Government has urged its youths to avoid the tendency to abuse drugs and other substances while celebrating Christmas.
A statement by Gov. Hope Uzodinma’s Special Adviser on Narcotics and Illicit Drugs Monitoring, Chief Ezechukwu Obonna in Owerri on Wednesday, urged Imo youths and all residents of the state alike to prioritise their health, safety and well-being of those around them.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that Obonna, who hitherto served in the same capacity was reappointed by the governor on Monday Dec. 23, 2024.
The governor, in a notice of reappointment signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Cosmas Iwu, described Obonna as “a proven asset in the war against drug abuse “.

He said that drug abuse and trafficking posed significant threats to individuals, families and communities.
He, therefore, advised Imo residents to focus on spending quality time with loved ones, practicing self-care and self-love, engaging in drug-free activities and reflecting on their goals and aspirations.
“Let’s spread love, kindness and awareness against illicit drugs use and trafficking instead.
“Together, let’s build a safer, healthier and more compassionate world.
“Remember, a healthy and happy you are the best gift to yourself and those around you, so stay safe, sober and have a wonderful Christmas,’ said Obonna.
