The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun has deployed the Intelligence Response Team to rescue Afenifere Youth Leader Prince Eniola Ojajuni who was kidnapped on February 17 while traveling to Abuja.

The IGP has directed that the team’s top priority be the safe return of Ojajuni.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi reassured citizens of the police’s dedication to securing Ojajuni’s release, pledging to deploy all necessary resources and expertise to this effort.

He commended the bravery of officers involved in the rescue, acknowledging their commitment to public safety.

“The IGP commends the bravery and swift action of these gallant officers who have demonstrated their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens. In the same vein, the IGP has ordered the immediate deployment of the FID Intelligence Response Team to prioritise the safe rescue of Prince Eniola Ojajuni, the Afenifere Youth Leader, who was kidnapped on 17 February 2025 while en route to Abuja,” Adejobi stated.

He further emphasized the police’s commitment to Ojajuni’s safe return, saying, “The NPF is fully committed to the safe return of Prince Ojajuni and is deploying all necessary resources and expertise to achieve this objective.”

Adejobi also urged Nigerians to avoid spreading unverified information about the kidnapping on social media, which could jeopardize the operation.

He said, “The police urge members of the public to exercise caution and refrain from engaging in social media speculation or sharing unverified information regarding the ongoing rescue efforts. Such activities can inadvertently jeopardise the operation and potentially endanger the victim’s safety.”

He assured the public that the Nigeria Police Force would continue its efforts to dismantle criminal elements within communities, with the ultimate goal of ensuring peace and safety.

In addition to the efforts surrounding Ojajuni’s case, Adejobi highlighted some of the police’s recent successes. On February 26, 2025, operatives in Taraba State raided a suspected criminal hideout at Wamunchi dry-season rice farms, resulting in the arrest of 20 suspects and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, seven rounds of live ammunition, a motorcycle, three Dane guns, and a bow and arrow.

In Oyo State, a swift response by tactical teams and local security outfits led to the rescue of three kidnap victims on February 24, 2025.

The victims had been abducted from the palace of Baale Tajudeen Inaolaji. The operation also led to the arrest of one of the kidnappers.
