Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, was denied entry to the Rivers State House of Assembly quarters on Wednesday, where lawmakers are currently holding plenary sessions.
The governor arrived at the Assembly quarters that morning to present the state’s 2025 budget but found the gate locked, blocking his access.
This incident follows Fubara’s earlier commitment to implementing the Supreme Court’s ruling, which includes the formal presentation of the 2024 budget.
The 2024 budget was initially presented to a faction of the Assembly with only four members in December 2023. Last week, the Assembly gave the governor a 48-hour ultimatum to present the 2025 budget.

In his response, Fubara mentioned that he was awaiting the Certified True Copy of the court’s judgment before taking further action.
On Sunday, a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, was sent to Speaker Martins Amaewhule.
The letter invited lawmakers for discussions on the Supreme Court ruling, which were expected to address matters such as the budget presentation and the payment of outstanding salaries to legislators, among other key issues to guide the state’s future direction.
