The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State has officially disowned Dan Osi Orbih, the former South-South Zonal Chairman of the party, declaring that he is no longer a member of the PDP.
This declaration came after Orbih was accused of aligning himself with the All Progressives Congress, APC, particularly in his recent actions in the state.
The statement, issued by Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, Chairman of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, made it clear that Orbih’s political affiliation has shifted towards the APC, and his tenure as South-South Zonal Chairman of the PDP ended on March 9, 2025. The Edo PDP leadership further criticized Orbih for his “theatrics” and described his actions as undermining the efforts of the legitimate party structure in the state.
Dr. Aziegbemi emphasized that Orbih’s recent activities, including claims of donating a PDP secretariat, were misleading. The PDP leadership stated that the secretariat Orbih referred to was actually under the control of the APC government, suggesting that Orbih had become a political employee of the ruling party. Furthermore, they made it clear that Orbih had no authority to speak on behalf of the PDP or make decisions related to party property.
The Caretaker Committee underscored that the legitimate leadership of the PDP in Edo State, under the leadership of Emma Ogidi, has taken charge of the party’s affairs in the South-South zone. This includes continuing the party’s development agenda and maintaining focus on its mission of progressive governance in the state.
In a strongly worded response, the PDP also called on the people of Edo State to disregard Orbih’s actions, urging them to remain focused on the ongoing positive contributions made by the legitimate party leadership.

“The people of Edo State should not be distracted by Orbih’s antics, which are motivated by personal interests,” said Dr. Aziegbemi. “Our focus is on unity and delivering on our promises to the people of Edo, and we remain undistracted by his conduct.”
While Orbih’s tenure as the South-South Zonal Chairman has ended, his influence within the party has been a topic of contention for some time. His disownment marks a significant turn in the political dynamics of the PDP in Edo State, as the party navigates internal disputes and external pressures.
Orbih’s actions have raised questions about the direction of his political career, as many believe his shift in loyalty signals a deeper affiliation with the APC, a party he has reportedly supported in recent political engagements.
This latest development has added fuel to the ongoing factional struggles within the PDP in Edo, as the state prepares for future elections and the party’s efforts to strengthen its leadership structures in the region.
