Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has issued a warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding the involvement of the United States government in Nigerian politics, particularly concerning his ambition for a second term in 2027.
In a statement released on April 18, 2025, Ayodele claimed that the US government would be Tinubu’s most significant opposition in the upcoming election, a situation that could jeopardize his re-election prospects if not handled carefully. He cautioned the president to remain vigilant about foreign interference, particularly from the United States, which Ayodele says is planning to thwart Tinubu’s second-term ambitions for reasons yet unknown.
Ayodele stated, “President Tinubu needs to be very careful and watch his back because the American government is trying to gang up against his second-term ambition. From what I am seeing, the US government would be Tinubu’s major opposition in 2027.” He added that while Tinubu might dismiss this warning, the consequences could be severe for the president.

Furthermore, Ayodele urged Tinubu to focus more on international political opposition rather than the domestic opposition parties, who he believes lack the seriousness and unity needed to mount a viable challenge to the president’s second term bid. According to the prophet, Nigerian opposition candidates are more interested in their personal agendas than forming a coalition capable of winning in 2027.
“The opposition candidates are not serious about taking over, they are only doing what they like out of selfish interests. They can’t come up with any reasonable coalition that can win the presidency in 2027,” Ayodele stated.
The prophet emphasized that President Tinubu should prioritize preventing foreign political actors, especially the US, from lending support to opposition parties. He warned that unless Tinubu takes action, his second term could be under serious threat.
