Phoebe Gates, in collaboration with her friend and entrepreneur Sophia Kianni, has launched Phia, a cutting-edge fashion tech app powered by AI.

Earlier this year, Gates, daughter of tech moguls Bill and Melinda French Gates, introduced The Burnouts, a podcast on the Unwell Network founded by Alex Cooper.

The debut episode featured Kianni, her Stanford peer and business partner, as the duo discussed their academic background and how it led to the creation of their new venture.

The two revealed that their time studying subjects like law and human biology shaped how they now approach fashion technology.

“It’s easy to look back and think we studied different subjects that now don’t really relate to what we’re working on,” Gates said. “But it’s important for people to realize you can always change direction.”

Their new app, Phia, officially launched this week. It is described as a digital shopping assistant — an AI-powered platform that helps users compare prices across more than 40,000 retail and secondhand fashion sites.

“Shopping for the things you love shouldn’t be hard, expensive, or a waste of time,” the co-founders said in a joint statement. “Phia makes finding the best deal effortless.

The app works like a fashion-focused version of Google Flights. Users can search for clothing or accessories and instantly receive price comparisons from various platforms, without the distraction of ads or the hassle of endless tabs.

“Phia is like Google Flights for fashion — no ads, no endless searching. Just the best options in one click,” they added.

The app is designed for young, style-conscious consumers who value convenience, affordability, and time-saving digital tools.

With sustainability in mind, Phia also integrates listings from secondhand platforms, offering users more responsible shopping options.

With Phia, Gates and Kianni are tapping into the future of fashion retail — combining smart technology with user-first design to simplify online shopping.
