Bill Gates has opened up on his divorce from Melinda French Gates
Despite regrets, he said he has since moved forward, focusing on his work, family and new relationship with Paula Hurd.
In an interview on NBC’s TODAY show, the Microsoft co-founder reflected on his personal life, acknowledging that while the divorce wasn’t easy, he remains grateful for his career and children.
“My business career, although there have been some ups and downs, has been incredibly phenomenal; my kids are phenomenal; so it’s even hard for me to complain about things,” Gates said.
He described the split as “the mistake I most regret” but emphasized that he has moved past it.
Since finalizing the divorce in 2021 after 27 years of marriage, Gates has been seen with Hurd, a philanthropist and the widow of former Oracle CEO Mark Hurd.
The couple has attended major events together, including a Baylor University basketball game and the 2024 Olympics.
Gates even acknowledged Hurd in his memoir, Source Code: My Beginnings, thanking her and other close friends, such as Marc St. John and Sheila Gulati, for their thoughtful feedback on the book.
Despite his regrets, Gates expressed that both he and Melinda are in a good place. “Melinda’s doing well. I have a lot of work that I love to do, so I’m not really complaining about anything,” he said.
With a focus on work and a strong support system, Gates continues to embrace his next chapter with optimism.
