TVC News has made a groundbreaking move in Nigerian broadcasting by launching the country’s first artificial intelligence, AI, news anchors capable of delivering news in five of Nigeria’s major languages.

The digital anchors, developed as part of TVC Communications’ newsroom modernization strategy, are designed to present bulletins in English, Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and Pidgin. This multilingual feature aims to reach broader and often underserved audiences across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

Describing the launch as a historic moment, the company said: “This pioneering innovation represents a significant milestone in the broadcasting history of Nigeria.” According to the network, the AI anchors will not replace journalists but rather support them in scaling news delivery and enhancing inclusivity in local language communication.

The AI innovation also aligns with TVC’s wider goal of using technology to improve content delivery, increase regional relevance, and solidify its presence across digital platforms. “We’re combining innovation with editorial integrity to speak to Nigerians in the languages they relate to,” the statement added.

While the use of AI in media raises concerns around misinformation and deepfake technologies, TVC said it has instituted robust editorial checks.

All AI-generated content will be overseen by human editors, and digital watermarking will be used to ensure authenticity. The company emphasized that the AI news system is being deployed under strict compliance with the Nigerian Broadcasting Code.

Victoria Ajayi, CEO of TVC Communications, highlighted the broader ambition behind the project. “This is about using technology to serve our audience better. We’re not replacing humans—we’re enhancing our storytelling tools,” she said.

TVC’s move signals a significant shift in how African newsrooms may leverage AI to scale local language journalism, improve content diversity, and meet the demand for accessible and real-time news.
