Elon Musk, billionaire and friend of the Trump administration, has unleashed a scathing critique of President Donald Trump’s flagship budget legislation, labelling it a “disgusting abomination” that will saddle future generations with unsustainable debt.
The remarks were made in a series of posts on Musk’s official X account on Tuesday, just days after his resignation from a position within the Trump administration.
His latest attack centers on the proposed “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a sweeping budget package championed by President Trump as a cornerstone of his economic agenda.
“This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination,” Musk wrote. “Shame on those who voted for it—you know you did wrong. You know it.”
The bill, which is set to extend tax cuts originally introduced in 2017 during Trump’s first term, also includes massive spending increases aimed at advancing several of the administration’s top priorities.
Among them is a proposed \$46.5 billion allocation for the continued construction of barriers along the U.S.–Mexico border, a project Musk has previously criticized for its cost and limited technological scope.
In another post, Musk decried the bill’s financial implications: “It will massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!!) and burden American citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt.” He added bluntly, “Congress is making America bankrupt.”
Musk, who has long advocated for leaner government operations and reduced public spending, emphasized that his departure from the administration has not altered his broader support for national interests.

However, he made it clear that he could no longer remain silent about what he sees as reckless fiscal policy.
While President Trump has yet to respond to Musk’s tirade, political analysts are closely watching to see whether the president will confront his former ally or choose to ignore the criticism.
The pair previously maintained a publicly cordial relationship, with Musk even participating in advisory roles on energy and innovation in earlier stages of Trump’s presidency.
The “One Big Beautiful Bill” has drawn mixed reactions from lawmakers. Supporters argue that it delivers essential tax relief and funding for national priorities. Critics, however, say the bill is bloated with unnecessary provisions and lacks accountability on spending.
Musk’s public condemnation adds a new layer of controversy to an already hotly debated issue. His statements are likely to energize opposition from fiscal conservatives and could influence undecided lawmakers as the bill moves through Congress.
Musk’s stance also reflects a broader concern among business leaders who fear that continued deficit spending, especially during a time of global economic uncertainty, could have long-term consequences for the U.S. economy.
As the debate unfolds, one thing is clear: Elon Musk, never one to hold back, is once again reshaping the national conversation—this time from outside the halls of power.
