Saudi Arabia’s Prince Al-Waleed, who has been in a coma for 20 years, has been pronounced dead.

The late prince, who was the son of the billionaire Prince Khaled bin Talal, slipped into a coma in 2005 after he was involved in a car accident in the United Kingdom.

At the time of the grisly accident, Al-Waleed was at a military college. Following the accident, he was put on a life support machine at the King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh.

Tubes were being used to feed him for the past 20 years until his demise.

According to a report by Khaleej Times, the father of the sleeping prince took to his X (formerly Twitter) platform to announce the sad incident.

“With hearts full of faith in Allah’s decree and destiny, and with profound sadness and sorrow, we mourn our beloved son Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away to Allah’s mercy today,” his statement read.

Gulf News stated that Prince Al-Waleed, who was his father’s eldest son, received urgent medical care after the accident.

Specialised doctors from Spain and America were involved in his case, but he never really regained full consciousness.

Despite his being in a coma, he made occasional involuntary movements that offered hope to his family that he would one day regain consciousness.

Al-Waleed’s father remained steadfast in his hope that his son would one day wake up, even going to the extent of publicly rejecting medical advice to withdraw life support.

As days went by, Al-Waleed continued to hope for a divine healing.
