The President of the Nigeria Union Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Tajudeen Baruwa and three other officers of the union who were arrested by the Police in Abuja have regained their freedom.
The President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Mr Joe Ajaero told the News Agency of Nigeria that they were released on Thursday night.
The released officials were the National President, Tajudeen Baruwa; General Secretary, Anthony Chukudi; National Trustee, Olayi Odiona and Principal Assistant Secretary, Abdulrasak Yemi.
The National Executive Council of NLC had during its meeting on Aug. 31 condemned the Police’s action and called for the release of the NURTW leadership.
This was part of NLC’s demand during the two-day nationwide warning strike held on Sept.5 and 6th.
Baruwa and 21 others, were arrested in Abuja by the Nigerian Police force and charged with alleged criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, public disturbance and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
