Lagos State Traffic Management Authority LASTMA , operatives rescued passengers from a commercial bus after a container-laden truck collided with the bus in the outer Marina area of Lagos at about 7am, resulting in various injuries to the victims.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, attributed the accident to over-speeding and brake failure. LASTMA personnel responded swiftly to the scene, providing support to rescue the passengers and driver trapped in the commercial bus.
In a statement, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of LASTMA’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, stated that ” the accident happened as a result of overspeeding, which caused a brake failure.”
“Our personnel who were along the axis quickly moved to the scene to rescue the occupants of the commercial bus (driver and passengers) with the support of sympathetic road users,” the speaker stated after the accident.
Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that police officers from the Lion Building, led by the Divisional Crime Officer, provided security support during the rescue operation. Ashafa Moyosore (Zebra 1, Olowu), who led the rescue efforts, successfully rescued all the passengers and the driver, and they were subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, issued a cautionary message to the motoring public, especially commercial bus drivers, urging them to drive cautiously, exercise restraint, and adhere to speed limits when operating on Lagos roads, particularly during the “ember months” when road accidents tend to increase. This advisory is aimed at promoting road safety and preventing accidents during this period.
