The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday bowed to the order of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in the matter of former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria ,CBN, Godwin Emefiele.

Emefiele, who has been in the custody of Federal Government security agencies for over 150 days, was brought to court in compliance with the order of Justice Olukayode Adeniyi.

The former CBN Governor, donned a yellow Babariga and a Hausa cap, arrived at the courtroom around 12:30, accompanied by a team of EFCC operatives providing security.

Outside the court premises, friends and relatives awaited the Judge’s arrival for a hearing in his fundamental human rights case.

Recall that  crediblenews had reported that ,The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission , EFCC ,faced criticism for failing to produce the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, before the High Court in Maitama, Abuja, as directed by Justice Olukayode Adeniyi on November 2

Justice Adeniyi had ordered the EFCC to either unconditionally release Emefiele or present him in court to be granted bail.

However, at the latest court session, Emefiele’s attorney, Mr. Mathew Burkaa, informed the court that the EFCC had disregarded the court’s order.

But during Monday’s court session, Emefiele’s lawyer, Mr. Mathew Burkaa, told the judge that the EFCC had ignored the court’s directive.

Judge Adeniyi reiterated his directive that the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria be brought before the court today, November 8, in order to be granted bail.

Alternatively, he had instructed the anti-graft agency to release Emefiele on bond on its own or allowed the court to do so in accordance with the law’s fundamental human rights provisions.
