A final year student of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, Olayinka Emmanuel Olatunji, has taken his own life.
In a tragic turn of events, Olayinka Emmanuel Olatunji, a final year student at the University of Lagos ,UNILAG, took his own life. The somber incident unfolded when he shared a distressing video on the class WhatsApp platform from his home, revealing the consumption of a harmful substance later identified as sniper.
His fellow students immediately rallied to reach out to him, only to receive the heartbreaking news of his untimely demise, a result of the toxic ingestion.
Reports suggest that the weight of various pressures, including social circles and financial struggles, may have driven the young student to make this fateful decision.
Speculation within the class WhatsApp platform pointed towards Emmanuel’s battle with depression, likely worsened by his challenges in securing the necessary funds for his academic pursuits.
A secondary school classmate of Emmanuel, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared that he had been grappling with depression for some time.
Emmanuel had even expressed concerns about feeling targeted by certain groups and celebrities. Despite the heartfelt attempts to reach out and offer support, he chose to keep his inner turmoil hidden.
His classmate lamented, “It is shocking to me to hear of his passing. He was my secondary school classmate at Mafogram Secondary School.”
