The aftermath of the Kogi State governorship election has seen the rejection of the results by the Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP, candidate, Dino Melaye, and the Social Democratic Party ,SDP, candidate, Muritala Ajaka.

The Independent National Electoral Commission ,INEC, had declared the All Progressives Congress ,APC, candidate, Usman Ododo, as the winner with 446,238 votes.

Dino Melaye has called for the cancellation of the election, citing what he termed “unprecedented irregularities” across all three senatorial districts in the state.

He expressed disappointment in the manual accreditation process, the non-use of BVAS, and the appearance of prepared result sheets before accreditation.

Melaye accused INEC of bias, compromise, and being an untrustworthy and non-neutral umpire. He urged INEC to cancel the election, emphasizing the challenges posed to the democratic process.

Similarly, Muritala Ajaka rejected the election results, stating that they were against electoral laws.

His media aide, Faruk Adejoh-Audu, called on INEC to immediately halt the announcement of results and cancel areas where malpractices were uncovered. Ajaka emphasized the need for transparency and adherence to electoral laws.

The rejection of election results by key candidates raises concerns about the credibility of the electoral process and calls for a thorough review to address reported irregularities.

The aftermath of the election in Kogi State underscores the importance of transparency and fairness in the electoral system to uphold the integrity of democracy.
