In a tragic incident, a night fire has ravaged a section of Gambarou Market, the second market in Maiduguri, Borno State’s capital.
This unfortunate event occurred five months after a similar fire incident razed part of the international market in March 2023.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and firefighters are actively working to extinguish the flames.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the fire originated from the section of the market where spices and grains sellers had their shops.
Security operatives were deployed to the market to prevent theft of property as firefighters battled the blaze.
Simultaneously, another market, Oja Tuntun, located in Ile-Ife, Osun State, experienced a devastating fire incident.
The popular market, considered the largest in the ancient town, suffered significant losses as at least 17 shops were affected by the inferno.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The spokesperson of the Osun State Fire Service, Adekunle Ibrahim, confirmed the incident, stating that firemen received a distress call around 12:30 am on Saturday from a resident living near the market.
The extent of the damage and the value of goods lost in the Oja Tuntun market fire is reported to be in the millions of Naira.
Firefighters are actively working to address the situation, emphasizing the challenges and impact of such incidents on local communities and businesses.
