The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, along with other top security officials, including the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Staff, and Chief of Naval Staff, appeared before the House of Representatives for a sectoral debate on the nation’s security.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, was also in attendance.

The closed-door session began around 11:26 am, where the security heads outlined the various efforts being made to address the security situation in the country. Before the executive session, the officials shared insights into their strategies and initiatives.

During the session, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff, urged the National Assembly to intervene in enhancing surveillance in backwaters, creeks, and other areas behind the coastline.

He emphasized that increased surveillance in these areas would help monitor activities such as oil theft, pipeline vandalization, and illegal refining on a 24-hour basis.

This appearance follows a previous attempt by the House of Representatives to hold a sectoral debate with the security chiefs, where they sent representatives instead of attending in person, leading to the rejection of the representatives by the House.

Last week, the House expressed its displeasure over the absence of the service chiefs and the Inspector General of Police during the plenary session.
