In a scathing rebuke, former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress ,APC, Timi Frank, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s bid for recognition in the Guinness World Records, asserting that the President’s purported reforms has wreaked havoc on the nation’s economy.
Tinubu had expressed his desire for Guinness World Records acknowledgment during the 10th German-Nigerian Business Forum in Germany, citing his commitment to reforms since assuming office.
However, Timi Frank, in a statement released on Friday, dismissed this aspiration as a misplaced venture, arguing that the President’s policies have adversely affected the nation.
According to Frank, the President’s claim of breaking records is marred by the devaluation of the national currency, with the exchange rate soaring to over N1,000 for $1, compared to the N600 rate before Tinubu’s inauguration. Frank contends that the economic hardships inflicted on the populace belie any positive impact claimed by the President.
In the statement, Frank highlighted the removal of fuel subsidy as a purported reform that brought anguish to citizens, causing steep increases in fuel prices. He criticized Tinubu’s assertion that investors would be attracted to Nigeria, pointing out that a flawed electoral process and an unreliable judiciary discourage foreign investment.
Frank further cast doubt on the President’s claims of securing investment commitments from Saudi Arabia and India during his visits, stating that no concrete evidence of such investments has emerged. He argued that, under transparent conditions, Nigeria should naturally attract investors due to its abundant human and material resources.
The statement underscores the growing skepticism regarding the economic impact of the President’s reforms, painting a picture of a nation grappling with economic challenges rather than breaking records on the global stage. As the political discourse intensifies, the spotlight remains on the actual effects of the proclaimed reforms on the welfare of the Nigerian people.
