Heightened security measures are in place at the National Assembly as preparations are underway for President Bola Tinubu’s presentation of the 2024 Appropriation Bill.
The Department of State Services ,DSS, has deployed personnel to manage entrance gates, strictly controlling access to the complex.
Journalists arriving early faced restrictions, with only individuals possessing designated “2024 Budget Presentation” tags granted entry.
Security agents enforced the requirement for specific tags, leaving those with official identification cards and National Assembly passes unable to enter until the designated tags were provided later in the day.
The usually crowded visitors’ car park saw a reduced number of vehicles.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, was observed arriving at his office as preparations unfolded. Security personnel directed those without tags, including auxiliary workers, media aides, and visitors, to leave the premises, leading to subdued conversations among them.
The atmosphere remained tense as the National Assembly geared up for the significant event.
