The Supreme Court will rule on the fate of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra ,IPOB, today.
The highly anticipated verdict will determine whether Kanu will be released or remain in custody.

Kanu’s attorney, Chief Mike Ozehkome, argued for his client’s immediate release and sought “heavy and punitive costs” against the government. Meanwhile, the government’s attorney, Tijani Gazzali, urged the court to uphold the amended brief he filed earlier this year.

The former London estate agent and radio host was arrested in 2015 on treason and terrorism charges. Later, he jumped bail and fled the country, reappearing in the United Kingdom and Israel.
In 2021, he was extradited back to Nigeria in a contentious operation deemed “illegal” by the Court of Appeal. This resulted in the landmark judgment ordering Kanu’s release in October 2022. The government’s appeal, however, has kept him behind bars.
