Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho has described a protest against the government of President Bola Tinubu as a misplaced priority even as he restated his commitment to a separate Yoruba nation.
Igboho, who returned to the country last week after a three-year exile, has urged Yorubas to shun any protest against Tinubu while asking them to close ranks and provide a solid security architecture to protect lives and property in their territory.
He spoke during a courtesy visit to the palace of Oba Abdulrasheed Adetoyese Anikulapo, the Ona Onibode of Igboholand where he disclosed that he is already assembling about 60,000 young people to patrol all forests and highways in Yorubaland to rid all areas of bandits and marauders.
He took a swipe at former president, Muhammadu Buhari whom he accused of authorising his assassination and also left a bankrupt country for Tinubu.
A video in Yoruba shared on social media and transcribed by Credible News reads:
“In Nigeria, several people are insulting me, some have said that I was after what I will eat.“With all modesty, I am rich. I am wealthy. There is nothing I wanted that God has not given to me. I have many children. I have in Canada, Germany and all over. There is nothing I have requested of God, that he has not granted.
“If there ceases to be men at home, I am a man. One million Fulani’s cannot stop me.
“This is why I sought for your support so that we can be liberated from the slavery of Fulani people, but nobody answered me.
“I having been raising my voice in Yorubaland. Nnamdi Kanu was doing same in Igboland. Kanu was lucky to get an imprisonment. Buhari actually wanted both of us dead. He was lucky to get a prison sentence.
“Where is Malami today? He’s deeds and memories are now treated as those of the past; Lateef Fagbemi has replaced him in office. Buhari who wielded so much authority, where is he today? He is back to his village tending his cows after throwing Nigeria to bankruptcy.
“I appealed to our people to liberate ourselves from the Fulani hegemony and slavery and demand for our independence because Nigeria is too fragile to stand as a country. We own the oil and many natural resources and therefore have nothing to do with the Fulanis. I said one Nigeria is not sustainable but nobody answered me.
“Today, Buhari after messing up the country, has transferred a terrible economy, a fragile country to Tinubu. Tinubu has spent just six months and we’re already grumbling, when he hasn’t really done anything yet.
“I am most pained by the fact that you see a lot of prominent Yoruba figures now leading protests against hunger and hardship. Have you spotted any prominent Igbo figure leading such a protest? It is because they have succeeded in eradicating Fulani people from their land. They are now able to farm and do other things freely, so why can’t we Yoruba do the same and empower our people enable them farm freely.
“Nigeria has no business with hunger and famine. Yorubaland has fertile soil for root crops and grains; our forefathers were productive farmers, planting cassava and guinea corn. They had bumper harvests. We can do same now.
“When we plant, cattle herders will bring their cows to eat the farms and terrorise owners of the farms who dare complain. Why can’t we cooperate instead of blaming Tinubu. Now the North is complaining about famine. It is unfair to blame Tinubu for the misdeeds of the past.
“The carnage being carried out now affects virtually everyone, including our elders who declined to cooperate with us in the quest for independence. I am sure they will rise up and support us in the journey of independence that we seek now.
“I use this medium to call on all the youths, let us support each other. Within just a month, five royal fathers were killed in their domain.
“Let us come together and make this independence happen. I have founded some security groups because we need to establish our own security apparatus; we do not need to keep waiting endlessly for the government. We will soon start combing the bushes and forests, starting from Ekiti State. And I will lead the movement.
“Let us stop insulting our traditional heads and leaders because whatever is happening now is as a result of the damage Buhari had done before leaving the seat of power. Buhari granted amnesty to about 5,000 so-called repentant Boko Haram terrorists and recruited them into the Nigerian Army, Police Force and even DSS.
“When a cry was raised that Fulani herders were terrorising the people of Ekiti, it is these same people that had been granted amnesty that were deployed to come and maintain peace, you know what that means.
“It is abominable for bandits to stop our royal fathers from travelling in their territory. We reject that. We need no protests against government’s inability to provide security for us. We can defend ourselves if we are determined. Nigeria cannot work.
“So, I urge you all to collaborate with me and let’s chase bandits out of our territories, we don’t need all the complaints. I have organised a number of people into vigilance groups. One is Ifelodun Omo Yoruba, the other is Akinkanju Omo Yoruba. I am behind their formation. I urge all young men to join. I am well prepared this time to rid Yorubaland of bandits, kidnappers and murderers. I will lead the crusade, combing all forests and highways. We will cover all local governments. We will recruit at least 60,000 people.”
