Animal authorities in Uganda have purportedly prohibited the sale of meat in the capital, Kampala, as part of measures to control an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, which affects animals.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries issued a letter stating that the movement of cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, and their products in Kampala Capital City Authority, Kampala District, is prohibited until further notice. Livestock markets, slaughter places, including butcheries, loading grounds, and animal shows in the entire district are closed with immediate effect. The letter, dated March 1st, was received by Kampala authorities on Thursday, according to reports from the privately owned Daily Monitor newspaper.
