Nigeria’s para-table tennis competitors had a challenging Thursday at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, as they faced early exits from their respective events.

In the mixed doubles XD17 event, Kayode Alabi and Faith Obazuaye were defeated by the British duo of Joshua Stacey and Bly Twomey with a score of 1-3. The match ended with set scores of 6-11, 11-7, 6-11, and 6-11, sending the Nigerian pair out in the Round of 32.

Similarly, in the men’s doubles MD14 competition, Alabi and Victor Farinloye were beaten by the Chinese pair of Peng Weinan and Huang Jiaxin. The match concluded with a 0-3 loss, with set scores of 11-9, 11-5, and 11-8, in their Round of 16 fixture.

With these early setbacks, Team Nigeria’s hopes now rest on their performances in the singles events as they aim to secure honors and turn their Paralympic campaign around.
