Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, reaffirmed the country’s dedication to fostering global academic partnerships during the Qatar-Nigeria Educational Partnership Forum in Doha.
The minister emphasized three key areas for collaboration between Nigerian and Qatari institutions: Research partnerships, student exchange programs, and sabbatical opportunities for Nigerian scholars in Qatar.
In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, Mamman highlighted the potential for cooperation to boost academic excellence and cultural exchange between the two nations. The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader goal of internationalizing its education system, an outcome stemming from President Bola Tinubu’s recent state visit to Qatar.

The forum underscored the value of strategic partnerships between higher education institutions in both countries, offering Nigerian scholars opportunities to collaborate with leading Qatari universities on cutting-edge research.
Additionally, the event focused on addressing the issue of out-of-school children in Nigeria. Through Qatar’s Education Above All initiative, a partnership with the Kaduna State government is helping to return 100,000 children to school, particularly girls and children with disabilities. The program, which began as a pilot project, is expected to expand across Nigeria, providing greater access to education for underserved children.
Mamman praised Qatar’s efforts and expressed Nigeria’s eagerness to deepen this collaboration, stating that the partnership would not only address immediate educational challenges but also position Nigerian universities and scholars on the global stage.
