A Kano State High Court has issued an injunction against the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, the Accountant-General of the Federation, AGF, and the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC, to prevent the withholding of allocations due to the 44 Local Government Areas, LGAs, in the state.

The court’s decision followed a Motion Ex-Parte filed on November 1 by Ibrahim Muhammed, the Chairman of the National Union of Local Government Employees, alongside five other concerned residents.

The motion, filed by their legal representatives, Bashir Yusuf-Muhammad and Usman Bala-Salisu, raised concerns about the potential disruption of essential local government funding.

In response, Justice Ibrahim Musa-Muhammad granted an Interim Order of Injunction, directing the defendants—including the AGF, CBN, and RMAFC—not to interfere with or delay the disbursement of the Federation Account allocations to the 44 Kano State LGAs.

This ruling aims to ensure that the local governments receive their monthly allocations without disruption.

The court further ordered that the respondents, including the commercial banks involved, refrain from any actions that could withhold, defer, or delay the funds. These allocations are critical for the effective functioning of local governance in Kano.

Additionally, the applicants were authorized to serve the court order on the AGF, CBN, and RMAFC through Red Star Express Plc, a courier service, to ensure proper delivery. The matter is set for further hearing on November 21.

This injunction is seen as a significant victory for local governance in Kano, with the court ensuring that the allocated funds reach the local governments without interference from federal institutions.
