Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has approved a compensation package of N1.1 billion for property owners impacted by the ongoing construction of the Airport Road to Kuje expressway.
During an inspection in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike visited the affected sites, which include approximately 13 buildings and some factories slated for demolition. The six-lane dual carriageway project is being executed by Arab Contractors and aims to enhance connectivity in the region.
Explaining his decision, the minister stated, “I wanted to see firsthand the structures I was approving payment for. Now that I’m satisfied with the valuation, I will ensure the compensation is paid promptly to avoid any delays in the project.”
The approved funds will enable the Federal Capital Development Authority to proceed with payments immediately, ensuring smooth progress for the contractor.

In addition to the Airport Road-Kuje expressway, Wike inspected other ongoing projects, including the construction of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal and the feeder road leading to it.
The Court of Appeal Complex is expected to be completed and handed over by September 2025, while the feeder road (Asuquo Okon Road) is scheduled for delivery by May 2025, it will connect Obafemi Awolowo Way (Arterial Road N5) to Olusegun Obasanjo Way (Arterial Road N1) and include adjoining roads in the Daki Biyu District.
Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and reiterated his commitment to infrastructure development in the FCT.
“I am very impressed with what we saw this afternoon. It is progressing as expected.
“By the grace of God, we believe that in September 2025 the contractor will have handed over the structure.
“I also inspected the construction of the road leading to that edifice and the contractor is also doing everything possible to see that he beat the May 2025 timeline,” the minister said.
