The Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State has refuted claims that Prof. Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh, the sacked VC of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, was ever employed or confirmed as a professor at its institution.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Muazu Abubakar refuted Prof. Odoh’s claim of being a tenured professor, labeling the documents he presented as products of administrative fraud.

The university confirmed that Prof. Odoh was briefly a visiting staff member from 2014 to 2015 but did not teach any courses and never completed official documentation required for tenure.

The university highlighted that the letters of appointment and promotion presented by Prof. Odoh were fabricated, with the former Registrar’s involvement in issuing fraudulent stamps.

Prof. Odoh’s recent sacking as Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University followed a presidential review, which concluded the appointment process was flawed and violated due process.

Credible News recalls that the Federal Government sacked Prof. Odoh and dissolved the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, citing “grave breaches of laws” governing the institution.

This was announced on Wednesday by Prof. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, through a statement by Mrs. Folashade Boriowo, the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations.

The Council’s dissolution was prompted by its disregard for lawful directives including the unilateral appointment of a Vice-Chancellor who failed to meet the minimum eligibility criteria. Prof. Alausa explained that this action led to a breakdown of law and order, creating tension and disharmony within the university.

Mrs. Rosemary Ifoema Nwokike, the registrar was also removed from office. Prof. Alausa stated that an Acting Vice-Chancellor would be appointed, and a new Governing Council would be constituted promptly to restore governance and lawfulness to the university.

Dr. Alausa emphasized that these measures reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring good governance, accountability and adherence to the rule of law in Nigeria’s educational institutions. The changes, effective immediately, are expected to bolster the leadership and development of federal universities across the nation.
