The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has reported another act of vandalism on its Ahoada-Yenagoa 132 kv line, hindering repairs from a previous attack.
According to a statement by Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, vandals struck towers 29 to 31 on Tuesday, stealing about one-third of the conductor and hampering the completion of repairs.
The second act of vandalism occurred at night, further delaying the restoration of the line, which was already 85% restrung despite challenges like flooding and difficult terrain.
“Local security has been deployed to protect the site until repairs are completed,” Mrs. Mbah.
Guards have been deployed to secure the site at Ula Ikata, Ahoada East Local Government Area. The Ahoada end of the line will be powered as an additional precaution.

Earlier in November, 31 transmission towers in Okada and Ofosu communities were vandalized, affecting the 330kV Benin-Egbin and Benin-Omotosho lines. Critical components were stolen, risking the collapse of these towers.
These incidents pose significant threats to the stability and expansion of Nigeria’s national grid, causing delays in repairs and potential disruptions in bulk power supply.
TCN urges communities and security agencies to intensify vigilance in protecting power installations, emphasizing the need for public support to curb these damaging activities.
This growing trend of vandalism highlights the urgent need for stricter measures to safeguard Nigeria’s power infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply.
