The West African Examinations Council,WAEC, has released the provisional results for candidates who participated in the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination ,WASSCE,.
In a statement, WAEC announced that 4,108 candidates had their subject results annulled, while the results of 781 candidates were kept on hold. Out of those with cancelled results, 483 were disqualified for having mobile phones in the examination hall, and 209 had their results withheld due to suspected misconduct.
Candidates can access their results online via WAEC’s official website.
Further analysis showed a decline in performance in three core subjects English Language, Integrated Science, and Social Studies compared to the previous year. However, there was no decline in Mathematics results.

The results of candidates from 319 schools have been withheld due to allegations of collusion. WAEC stated that these cases are still under investigation, and the results could either be released or cancelled based on the findings.
The reported malpractices included the use of unauthorized materials, such as printed notes and mobile phones, as well as collusion and coordinated cheating, reportedly involving both candidates and some school authorities.
