Successful Missions in Borno and Katsina
“The recent successful missions, including those in Kukawa, Borno State, and the joint operations in Katsina against notorious bandit kingpins, exemplify the effectiveness of the NAF,” said Musa.
He added, “These operations have significantly weakened the operational capabilities of these adversaries, limiting their ability to target our vulnerable communities.
“Such achievements underscore the air force’s pivotal role in our national security strategy and highlight the bravery and professionalism of our airmen and airwomen.
“The evolving nature of these threats, from traditional insurgency to kidnappings and banditry, poses new challenges,” he stated.
The CDS assured Nigerians that the armed forces, in collaboration with other security agencies, remain fully committed to tackling all forms of security threats.
He noted that comprehensive strategies were yielding positive results, evidenced by the neutralization of key terrorist figures and the dismantling of their operational networks, contributing to improved peace and security nationwide.
Acknowledging Leadership and Support
Musa attributed the military’s success to the visionary leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

“The provision of necessary resources and support ensures that the Nigerian Air Force remains at the forefront of safeguarding our sovereignty,” he added.
He extended gratitude to President Tinubu, saying, “His dedication to the welfare of the armed forces is a cornerstone of our national security and a source of inspiration for all.”
Celebrating Culture and Unity
The CDS described the 2024 BASA as a celebration of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and a platform that fosters unity.
“This occasion provides a unique platform for air force personnel, their families, and friends to come together, embrace their roots, and share in the joy of our diverse traditions.
“It is a time to relax, reflect, and celebrate the cultural mosaic that defines us.
“These moments of unity are vital as they reinforce the bonds that strengthen our national fabric,” Musa said.
Historical Significance of BASA
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshall Hassan Abubakar, highlighted the event’s historical importance, tracing its origins to the colonial era. He noted that BASA has grown into a cherished military tradition and a highly anticipated annual event.
“Long before we became a country, our forebears established thriving societies grounded in the values of unity, community, and innovation.
“Today, we remember and honour remarkable civilisations such as the Nok Culture, renowned for their terracotta artistry; the Benin Kingdom, celebrated for its intricate bronze works; and the Sokoto Caliphate, a beacon of scholarship and governance.
“Equally noteworthy is the Kanem-Borno Empire, a major hub of the Trans-Saharan trade,” he added.
Abubakar described BASA as a symbolic event that pays homage to Nigeria’s cultural heritage while promoting pride in the nation’s identity.
