Dozens of those injured in the fuel tanker explosion in Suleja, Niger State, have been transferred to tertiary healthcare facilities for specialized treatment, Rabiu Ibrahim, the media aide to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, said on Monday.

The tragic event occurred when a fuel tanker overturned, spilling its contents and drawing a crowd attempting to gather fuel.

The explosion that followed claimed the lives of over 80 people. At present, 20 patients are being treated at Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital in Abuja, while two others have been transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, Abuja.

The patients were accompanied by medical staff and family members to ensure a smooth handover to the designated facilities.

The Niger State Government has expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for its prompt and efficient response to the incident.

The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation has assured the public that it will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide regular updates.

The statement read: “In line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu for the swift transfer of victims of the Suleja fuel tanker explosion to tertiary medical centres for enhanced medical attention, 20 patients have been admitted to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital in Abuja.

Similarly, two additional patients have been transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, Abuja. All the patients were accompanied by a nurse and family members to the designated referral centres to ensure seamless care.

The Niger State Government has expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its prompt and effective response to this unfortunate incident.

The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide timely updates to Nigerians.”
