World record holder in the Women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, will make her season debut at the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet in Kingston, Jamaica, on Saturday.
Amusan will race in the 60m event, where she will face Jamaica’s top athlete, Grace Jackson, marking their first-ever competition in the same event.
This will be Amusan’s first official race since the 2024 Paris Olympics, and similarly, Jackson will also be making her return after pulling out of the Games last year.
Amusan, 27, recently switched coaches in September 2024 and is now training under the guidance of Usain Bolt’s coach, Glen Mills, in Jamaica.
She is eager to kick off the season after a less-than-ideal performance in the previous campaign.

However, the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet is not World Athletics certified, meaning the race results will not count toward qualification for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, scheduled for September 13-21.
Also competing in the women’s 60m are former world junior champion Anthonique Strachan and Jonielle Smith, with other track stars like Zharnel Hughes, Tyquendo Tracy and Brendon Rodney also set to race.
Amusan, the reigning world record holder in the 100m hurdles with a time of 12.12 seconds, set during the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, became Nigeria’s first-ever world champion in athletics.
Over her career, she has represented Nigeria in three Olympics and has claimed numerous accolades, including four African Games titles, five African Championship wins, three Diamond League victories (2021, 2022, 2023), and two Commonwealth Games golds (2018, 2022).
She was recently inducted into the University of Texas El Paso’s Hall of Fame.
