Tunisia’s President Kais Saied has dismissed his finance minister, Sihem Boughdiri Nemsia, and appointed Michket Slama Khaldi, a magistrate, to the position.
The presidency announced Khaldi’s appointment in a Facebook post late Wednesday night, sharing images of her taking the oath of office.
The post did not offer further details or address the departure of the former finance minister.
Khaldi, who previously led a national commission focused on recovering embezzled public funds, takes on the responsibility of managing Tunisia’s finance portfolio during a challenging economic period.

The country has been struggling with periodic shortages of essential goods like milk, sugar, and flour over the past two years.
Recently, there has also been a shortage of domestic gas cylinders, which are commonly used for cooking and heating, adding further strain on the population.
With Khaldi’s appointment, there is hope that her experience in tackling financial misconduct will help address the ongoing economic crises, and that she will play a key role in stabilizing the country’s financial situation.
