The wife of Kogi State Governor, Hajia Sefinat Ododo has provided 500 widows across the state with 25kg bags of rice, clothing materials, and N20,000 cash each to support their livelihoods.
Launching the distribution on Saturday in Lokoja, Mrs. Ododo reaffirmed her commitment to improving the economic well-being of widows. She described the initiative as both a promise fulfilled and a divine mandate to care for society’s most vulnerable.
“It is a privilege to support the widows in our dear state and to uphold the mandate of Almighty Allah to look after their affairs,” she said.
Mrs. Ododo emphasized that neglecting widows’ needs is an injustice, stressing her dedication to their welfare. She urged government officials and the public to join efforts in empowering widows and ensuring their financial stability.
She also reassured the beneficiaries that her husband’s administration would continue prioritizing women’s welfare in the state.
In a unique twist, 10 widows who participated in a beauty pageant entertainment segment during the event received an additional N100,000 each as empowerment funds to help them start businesses.
Kogi’s Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajia Fatima Momoh, and the Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly, Comfort Nwuchiola, praised Mrs. Ododo for her unwavering support for women’s empowerment.
Mrs. Ojone Ojata, Chairperson of Widows’ Care, also expressed gratitude for the governor’s wife’s continuous assistance.
Beneficiaries, including Bilikisu Onuchi, Ruth Arungbemi, and Juliana Ujah, thanked Mrs. Ododo for alleviating their struggles.
“We are grateful to our mother, Hajia Sefinat Ododo, for always standing by Kogi women. May God bless her and our Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ododo,” Arungbemi said.
